O’Brien’s Carpet One Floor & Home in Colorado Springs, CO takes pride in raising money for the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association. Their event - Going Up for Down Syndrome – in partnership with local radio station KRDO sent local radio celebrity Dan Cochell 50 feet in the air. Dan lived on the 50-foot high lift for an entire week to raise money and awareness of Down syndrome. O’Briens Carpet One Floor & Home helped make Dan a little more comfortable by carpeting the interior of the lift with Tigressa carpet. Dan ate and slept up on the lift 24 hrs a day for 8 days. He came down on August 27th to lead the way in the annual Buddy Walk.
O’Briens Carpet One Floor & Home’s team raised the most money out of all the teams, but their biggest success occurred when the family of a newly born baby with Down’s came by the store on the kick-off day to request information because she heard it on the TV and radio stations.
The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
