When the kids go off to college, move on with their own lives, and start creating homes of their own, many empty-nesters feel the need for a refresh of their own décor. This is a great time to go back to the things that you love and create a space that makes you happy as you learn to live in your new empty nest.
The original Erin Gregory art in our empty-nesters’ family room was the inspiration for the entire color palette. The client wanted lots of super-comfortable seating in the family room that was beautiful, but also pet-friendly. The two CR Laine chairs were painted a custom aqua and covered in Sunbrella fabric to make them durable for the four-legged family members still at home.
We took this opportunity to open up the space and provide more light. Believe it or not, where the Erin Gregory art is was once a monstrous built-in with shelving and the TV. We tore the whole thing down to open up and lighten the room and moved the TV over the mantle.
Ultimately, our clients ended up with a beautiful new nest where they could enjoy time with friends, pets, and yes, even the kids when they come home to visit.
The Currey and Company chandelier with swags of turquoise marble beads added a sophisticated pop of color and blended beautifully with the floral Thibaut fabric on the window panels.
The original floral art by Erin Gregory was the jumping-off point for the room. We loved the vibrancy of the blues, corals, and greens.
The roman shade over the sink matched the window panels in the dining area and didn’t prevent light from coming into the space.
A drawer microwave, extra sink, and faucet make this beautiful, large island functional and a great space for gathering.
