Situated as part of a lakeside family compound, it was vital that this cottage be designed with hard working, practical finishes that didn’t compromise on design.
The architecture of the home is very contemporary and the main floor of the cottage is open concept. It has soaring ceilings and over-sized sliding door systems. All of these architectural elements made it challenging to create an intimate interior.
The interior of the home had to be family-friendly and also needed to accommodate heavy use from guests and other family member on the compound. It is a busy place!
We chose the vinyl flooring for its obvious durability. We wanted the finish to look like the trunks of the evergreen trees viewed through the gorgeous windows by the lake.
The space and furniture plan makes this room functional for how the clients use their home. They had a large playroom on the lower level so what was important on the main floor was to have ample seating for family gatherings.
We were inspired by the colors in nature when we specified fabrics and furniture.
The barn board treatment on the walls is my absolute favorite part of the interior.
Our client loved the texture of the barn board and granite slab finish on the fireplace wall.
