For a long time, in-home laundry rooms have sacrificed style in the name of function. And while your laundry room may not be the highest traffic area in your home, that doesn’t mean it should be boring or neglected.
Creating a laundry room that is not only functional but also visually appealing and stylistically similar to the rest of your home is easier than it appears.

Tile is a great way to add some visual interest into your laundry room design. If your design style is more on the bold side of things, consider choosing a multi-color and/or complex design for the floor, as a backsplash or even to cover the walls completely. Of course, if you like to keep things simple and clean there are plenty of tile options that are a little less bold, but just as visually appealing. Stone-look tile can give your laundry room a spa-like feel, while subway tiling on the walls is perfect for keeping a neutral color palette while adding texture.

Bold patterns and colors are an excellent way to personalize your laundry room. If you’re someone who likes bright colors, consider choosing a bright color for your cabinetry or walls like blue or purple to really make your space pop. If you want the visual interest of patterns and colors but prefer a neutral palette, consider choosing something like a wood-toned herringbone floor or a grey and white floral print on the walls. Design elements like these keep things simple, but still offer a more dynamic appearance in your laundry room.

Storage is an important part of any laundry room, but especially when it comes to small spaces. If you have a small laundry room, it’s important to get creative with your storage solutions. Consider building in corner shelves to maximize space and adding a drying rack that has additional storage above and below. Counter space is another necessity in a laundry room. To maximize counter space in a small laundry room, consider building your machines into the counter, wall or cabinets themselves. To save even more space, you can always stack your washer and dryer. Pro tip – if your machines are in a multi-purpose space, use shutters or curtains to cover the machines when not in use to transform your laundry room into whatever space you want or need it to be.
